Description

Party was formed on 29 November 1952. Among the founding members were Gustav Heinemann, a former CDU minister of the interior, and Helene Wessel, leader of the Zentrum. The party was dissolved at a party congress on 18/19 May 1957 and joining the SPD was recommended (Stöss 1968, 1478ff).
